The battle of two wallets
Alright, maybe it is a stretch to call one of these a full-on-sized wallet, but at the same time, the Chanel classic flap card holder is not your usual “card holder” SLG. After having this beauty for 4 months, I’ve used it so much that it’s giving Louis Vuitton’s Victorine a run for its money.
Why am I comparing a compact wallet to a card holder?
Well, for one….these are priced at a similar price point (LV Victorine $660 CAD, $570 USD, Chanel Classic Card Holder $650 CAD, $550 USD) and if we’re doing a fair comparison, it makes more sense to compare goods that are in a similar price range, wouldn’t you agree?

Honest review of LV Victorine Wallet
I was looking for a compact wallet and the design of this Victorine wallet ticked off all my requirements in a wallet (bill compartment, coin compartment, multiple card pockets) so I was really excited to get it!
The first thing I noticed when I came home and unboxed it, was the glazing issues. So before I could even use it, I went back to the store in hopes of an exchange. I didn’t have a great experience and was told that the glue residue is totally normal and that they would simply try to clean it off for me. After waiting for some time, they brought out the wallet and it did look better so I didn’t pursue any other action. However, the glazing issues returned quickly after some wear. I’ve cleaned it myself on occasion and now I just don’t bother with doing that. Who has the time to clean their wallets anyway?
I can’t say for sure that the glazing issues are what had made me think twice about using this wallet in my daily life or maybe it is the fact that I’m outgrowing the canvas LV print on SLGs, but I just stopped using this wallet altogether. 😔
Thinking about it now, I think the other major issue with the wallet is how stiff the card slots are so getting a card in and out requires some patience and force. Now maybe these slots would become softer eventually after some use and I just didn’t use it for that long to see that happen, but patience is not my strongest suit. 😂 Another point on the stiffness before we move on, when you use up all of the card slots, and put bills and maybe a few more cards inside of the flat pockets, you will ultimately have made chaos and won’t be able to close the wallet. Because it isn’t made out of soft leather, it does not stretch out as much as a fabric wallet or one with softer leather material would so something to be aware of.
The bill and coin compartments are great. No issues there. They do the job and I made sure to never overstuff my wallet with coins.
So finally, my overall rating for this wallet is 6/10.

Honest review of Chanel classic flap cardholder
After reading my review on the Victorine wallet, you can see why I was looking for another option for my daily use.
Since I didn’t own any of the Chanel pieces yet, I really wanted to start off my collection with at least an SLG item to see how I like the wear and tear on it.
To my surprise, the black caviar leather cardholder with the silver hardware was available in the store when I went to check it out, so I couldn’t think twice but to get it right on the spot. Another winning point for the wallet came with the pocket on the back. While it is completely useless on handbags, this pocket is what made me want to get this particular cardholder over the other options.
While I do carry a million cards with me, I only have one credit card that I use for all my purchases. So for my ease (and probably the least secure spot 😂), I place this card in that back pocket. What’s the point to open the whole thing when I know which card I need? Makes the check-out process so much faster!
I also really like the fact that once you open the cardholder, you have the front mini compartment that can easily fit two cards. This is useful if you want to separate your driver’s license as an example from your credit cards.
While I’m missing the coin compartment and thus don’t carry any coins, I can still fit a few bills and receipts if I fold them a few times. Not ideal but not the worst. I wish LV would bring back its coin purse SLG 😔so that I can bring my coins with me.
My personal rating for this SLG would be 9/10. I had to take a point off for the price point. Since this isn’t a real wallet, the price is a bit steep but hey it’s Chanel so who are we kidding - this will soon be $1000 after all the price hikes.
